Drivetrain
So,
one of the first areas that I plan to put attention to is the drivetrain.
The engine that is in it has over 100,000 miles on it. It's burning
a little bit of oil, so it would probably need to have a valve job
and piston rings replaced. Since this is currently my daily driver,
my plan is to get an engine to rebuild and get it all ready to drop
into the car.
Naturally,
if I'm going to rebuild an engine for the car, I might as well do
some enhancements to the engine while I'm at it. I haven't decided
yet what extent those changes are going to be. I'd love to be able
to add a bunch of performance to it, but money will definitely pull
the reins in on that one a bit. Any suggestions from visitors would
be appreciated, especially if they can give first hand experience
with their own cars. So, if you have a suggestion, please contact
me at suggestion@pimpmyprobe.com.
Since
I'm going to boost engine performance, I'm going to have to improve
the transmission as well. I think the clutch and transmission are
due for an overhaul almost as much as the engine. So, while I'm
rebuilding an engine, I'll probably do something with a clutch and
transmission.
Being
a computer techie, I'd really love to put in a programmable ECU/ECM
and learn to tweak it. I've started to look at what is available
and it's a bit overwhelming to see all of the options. If anyone
has experience doing this on a Probe and can suggest what to look
for, I'd appreciate hearing from you. In the meantime, I'll continue
to search the Net, browse the Webrings and pick the brain of my
local performance shop.
